Hardtail scad is also known as torpedo scad, finny scad, or horse mackerel. It is a relatively large fish, growing to a maximum recorded length of 80 cm and weighing 4kg. However, it is more common between 30 and 40 cm in size. Most of them in China come from the South and East Seas. Hardtail scad is a popularly consumed fish high in protein and low in fat. It is suitable for steaming, grilling, and frying.
